As the future highest dam in the world,Shuang Jiang Kou rockfill dam was the water retaining structure of homonymous hydropower station,a controlling engineering on Da Du River hydropower development,which is under design now.This dam is a central earth core dam with a height of 312 meters.A type of gravel soil stiffer than clay,which is made by artificial compounding of clay and gravel,is introduced to reduce the difference in displacement of earth core and rock filled shell zone.A three dimensional coupled nonlinear finite element analysis is carried out to study the three dimensional stressstrain behavior of Shuang Jiang Kou rockfill dam. Computation results show that the introduction of the contact high-plasticity clay layer is effective and necessary.

This paper analysis the stress and deformation properties of Wuluwati CFRD by using the three dimensional non-linear FEM analysis method. On the bases of the exiting computational methods for ordinary rockfill dams, computational methods for simulating the vertical joints and the peripheral joints and the upstream rockfill unloading are introduced by considering the characteristics of CFRD. By the comparative analysis of the different schemes of the actual project, the effects of construction sequence and the shape of abutment on the stress and deformation of CFRD are researched and analyzed.

Base on the analysis and summarization of the experiences of high rockfill
dam construction in China, the key technologies of modern high rockfill dam are
presented, which include: the application and improvement of dam construction
materials, foundation treatment and seepage control measures, etc. For earth
core rockfill dam, gravelly soil is a suitable material for impervious core. But the
gradation and content of coarse grains and fine grains should be well controlled
with the consideration of engineering requirement. For concrete faced rockfill dam,
the deformation control of rockfill and deformation coordination of different
material zones are the main focus in design and construction. From the analysis,
the particles breakage is essential for the deformation properties of rockfill under
high stress status and the arching effect of dam shell to earth core is the main
reason of hydraulic fracture.
